Going The Extra Mile [Round Up]
Tuesday, October 15, during the city council meeting, mayor Rick Norby announced that Sidney would begin celebrating Extra Mile Day. According to their official website, extramileamerica.org, Extra Mile Day is a national event that celebrates the capacity we each have to create amazing and positive change in ourselves, our families, our organizations and our communities when we “go the extra mile. “It is a day to clap hard for those individuals and organizations who are “going the extra mile” in volunteerism and service in order to make a positive difference in the world. Sidney, Montana is now one of only six cities in the state that honor their volunteers in this way. In 2009, founder Shawn Anderson pedaled 4,000 miles on an ocean-to-ocean bike tour to encourage city leaders to honor volunteers that go the extra mile and November 1 was declared Extra Mile Day…[Read more…]

Riverton Mayor proclaims November 1st will be “Extra Mile Day” [County10]
Riverton Mayor John “Lars” Baker announced a proclamation near the conclusion of Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
The proclamation announced that November 1st, 2018 will be known as “Extra Mile Day” in Riverton.

Earlier this week at the City Commission meeting I announced Williston’s participation in a nationwide initiative, Extra Mile Day on November 1st. Extra Mile Day celebrates the ability we all have to create positive change in ourselves, our families, our organizations, and in our communities when we go the extra mile. The day is both to recognize the individuals and organizations who do so much in our community, but also to encourage volunteerism and service.
Extra Mile Day is an extension of Extra Mile America, a nonprofit organization that empowers individuals, organizations, and entire cities to go the extra mile. Extra Mile Day Volunteer Heroes Celebrated By 550 Mayors [Digital Journal]
Volunteers who go the extra mile in service and selfless contribution in order to make a difference in their local communities are being celebrated across America on Extra Mile Day. On November 1, mayors from all fifty states are making a declaration to celebrate the significant impact and difference-making contribution that volunteers make.

Biddeford Mayor Alan Casavant officially declared Nov. 1 as Extra Mile Day in a proclamation at the Oct. 16 city council meeting.
Extra Mile Day is a part of the mission of Extra Mile America, an organization founded by Shawn Anderson. As a symbol of “going the extra mile,” Anderson pedaled 4,000 miles on a coast-to-coast bike tour in 2009 and interviewed more than 200 individuals who were making a difference in their local communities. Extra Mile Day was created in the spirit of Anderson’s ride to encourage leaders to acknowledge their own exceptional residents. Lexington Mayor John Fagot signed a “Extra Mile” proclamation on Tuesday, Oct. 9 to honor those individuals in the community who go the extra mile in personal effort, volunteerism and service. The proclamation also named Nov. 1, 2018 as “Extra Mile Day.”

Vacaville recognizes those who ‘go the extra mile’ [The Reporter News]
Vacaville dedicated Wednesday to recognizing those who go the extra mile in service and volunteering in the community.
“Extra Mile Day,” which Mayor Len Augustine declared for Wednesday, was started by Shawn Anderson in 2009.
“At that particular time, so much was going wrong with the country,” Anderson said, referencing the economy in recession.
