For its work, dedication, Nansen Ski Club earns the ‘Extra Mile’ award
BERLIN — The Nansen Ski Club is this year’s “Extra Mile” award winner, a national program that recognizes people in any community that go above and beyond to improve life where they live or for other people who reside in a particular city or town.
Mayor Paul Grenier, at the Nov. 6 city council meeting, proclaimed Nov. 1 to be Extra Mile Day. The first council meeting after Nov. 1 was Monday night. [Read more…]
National Observance: Extra Mile Day November 1
The final week of October is typically a highlight of everyone’s year. The celebration of Halloween with friends and family, coupled with the return of the cool autumn weather that most people have been waiting for all year, makes for a superb pair that many people look forward to.
After all, dressing up in a cool costume and roaming the streets while collecting free candy with the people who are closest to you by your side is a tough feeling to beat. Celebrating Volunteerism: Extra Mile Day Footprint Touches 500+ Cities
On November 1, mayors in 500+ cities and towns across America will declare Extra Mile Day. In teaming with Extra Mile America, mayors from Kodiak, Alaska, to Sacramento, California, to Wilmington, Delaware, will acknowledge and celebrate the impact of volunteers and organizations who are “going the extra mile” to create change and fill needs in their community.
Heroes and their contributions are being recognized in all 50 states. In the wake of the Floods of 2023 in Barre City, Vermont, Amanda Gustin organized volunteer efforts to clean up Barre faster than would otherwise be possible. She connected residents and businesses with badly needed resources and put people to work helping neighbors across the city. In Chicopee, Massachusetts, 80-year-old Rosemary Manyak has been volunteering at the Chicopee Council on Aging’s Senior Center meal site every day. She substitutes at the café, assists with packaging meals-to-go, and helps at special evening events. [Read more…]

At a time when existing budgets are continuously challenged to meet requests for local services, Extra Mile Day celebrates the individuals and organizations who are unselfishly “going the extra mile” and serving and volunteering in their local communities. The vision of motivational author Shawn Anderson, Extra Mile Day was created in 2009 with 23 inaugural cities. Extra Mile Day being celebrated Nov. 1
Wahpeton is a community which acknowledges that a special vibrancy is possible, Mayor Brett Lambrecht recently declared.

Extra Mile Day Is Set For Nov. 1
Rick Norby, Sidney mayor, made a proclamation during the city council meeting Monday, Oct. 16. Extra Mile Day is Nov. 1, 2023.
He gets an email every year asking for Sidney to join in the pledge from the Extra Mile America Foundation. Six or seven years ago, Mayor Norby decided to do it and Sidney has been joining in every year since. [Read more…]

Elkins’ mayor is looking for more ‘Extra Mile Heroes’
ELKINS — The City of Elkins is looking for heroes who are willing to go that proverbial “extra mile.”
Nov. 1 is Extra Mile Day across the nation, and Elkins Mayor Jerry Marco is asking for nominations from the public.

One individual, one group honored as Extra Mile Heroes
ELKINS — Elkins Mayor Jerry Marco signed a proclamation at City Hall this week honoring this year’s recipients of the Extra Mile Heroes service to the community award.
The mayor proclaimed Nov. 1 to be Extra Mile day in Elkins, as it was in 507 other communities across the U.S.. In the proclamation, Marco urged each individual in the community to take time to not only go the extra mile in his or her own life, but to also acknowledge all those who are inspirational in their efforts and commitment to make their organizations, families, community, country and world a better place.
