Three local groups have been honored by the City of Huntington as “Extra Mile Heroes.”

Almost 600 mayors across the United States will get together on 1 November and launch Extra Mile Day, in a bid to support a drive to highlight the “go the extra mile” message.

Six-time author and international keynote speaker Shawn Anderson has encouraged the employees of the Bacolod People’s House to “live the best versions of themselves” as part of sharing his empowering message “Fear, Failure… and Going the Extra Mile” at the Bacolod People’s House Lobby yesterday.

Bryant: Going the ‘extra mile’ for his neighborhood

Rochester City Code Chapter 35 section 1-A strictly outlaws plastering posters of pole dancers on the city’s poles. It also forbids hanging signs that say “Cash for Diabetic Test Strips” or “Need a blessing? I buy Houses Ca$h” to the city’s lamp posts, hydrants, trees, shrubs, telephone poles, fire alarm boxes or any other street appurtenance.

This law is trod upon by party promoters, home flippers and whoever is working the diabetes paraphernalia black market. In the 19th Ward, you don’t call the cops to deal with the resulting visual clutter. You take matters into your own hands. (See video)…[Read more…]

Rapid City theater director goes the extra mile

RAPID CITY, S.D. – At Monday night’s city council meeting Justin Speck was presented with the “Extra Mile” award for all the extra effort he puts in as a community member.

Speck is the artistic director of Black Hills Community Theatre and Rapid City Central High School’s theatre department. Speck has developed Central’s drama club into one of the top student theatrical groups in the state.
