Mayors from over 550 U.S. cities are expected to recognize extra-mile heroes in their communities and declare Extra Mile Day on November 1. Three local groups have been honored by the City of Huntington as “Extra Mile Heroes.”

The groups — Chris Elston and the Huntington Robotics Club, Marti Lundy and the Evangelical United Methodist Church, and the Memorial Hills Chain Rattlers Disc Golf Club — were recognized through Extra Mile America, an organization that honors “the people and organizations who are creating positive change in our communities through their extra mile efforts in volunteerism and service.”… [Read more…]

Sunday, Nov. 1 is proclaimed “Extra Mile Day” in the city of Wahpeton, a day for citizens to maximize their personal contribution to the community by giving of themselves wholeheartedly and with total effort, commitment and conviction to their individual ambitions – family, friends or community.

Rochester City Code Chapter 35 section 1-A strictly outlaws plastering posters of pole dancers on the city’s poles. It also forbids hanging signs that say “Cash for Diabetic Test Strips” or “Need a blessing? I buy Houses Ca$h” to the city’s lamp posts, hydrants, trees, shrubs, telephone poles, fire alarm boxes or any other street appurtenance.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – At Monday night’s city council meeting Justin Speck was presented with the “Extra Mile” award for all the extra effort he puts in as a community member.

Speck is the artistic director of Black Hills Community Theatre and Rapid City Central High School’s theatre department. Speck has developed Central’s drama club into one of the top student theatrical groups in the state.
